Location of Pomerols

The world’s largest viticultural region , the Languedoc - Roussillon , presents three types of soil and a typical landscape :

the mountains of the Cévennes
the Corbières & the Minervois
and lastly, the coastal plain, which is of most interest to us

This region is particularly known for its sunshine, typical landscape and its touristic cities.

Montpellier with its splendid Place de la comédie and its student life which keeps it animated and full of life.

Bézier , with its imposing St Nazaire cathedral ; and not to forget its corridas.

Agde , which for centuries was a flourishing trade-port , is now a very nice tourist city with 14 km of sandy beaches.

Sete , a one-of-a-kind , small port city with lining canals which join it to the lake and the dock.

Then there is Pomerols , a small picturesque village with a passionate historical past. Located between the garrigue in the north (a few kilometers from Pézenas) and the sea, dominated by the Mont St Clair with, in the south, the Cap D’Agde. The Pomerols vineyards stretch over vast sun-light terraces with clay/calcareous soils.

Introduction of the estate

Founded in 1932 , the Pomerols cooperative winery continues to expand , prosper and modernize to be able produce 55,000 hl of wine with high gustatory quality; a proof of the uniqueness of their origines.

At least 2 million francs are invested each year in order to improve the quality of the wines.

Today , the winery counts 320 full members for a vineyard of 800 hectares (230 hectares classified as A.O.C. Picpoul de Pinet). Among the six communes with the classification A.O.C. picpoul de Pinet , Pomerols is one of the most renowed.

In 1989 the cooperative winery of Pomerols started to experiment vinification and ageing in casks. In this manner, it is possible to obtain a better conservation of wines of the piquepoul variety beyond 18 months. The result prouved a success; different from wines vinified in tanks. This wine has more complex aromas, is richer, rounder and long on the palate. It has a complex mix of scents: lemon, vanilla, hazelnut and grapefruit.

Extract from the wine guide "Guide du Vin Gault Millau 1992" , « that’s it , it’s done , the Picpoul de Pinet is on its way to become a great wine . A great wine is born… »

You are welcome at the cellar throughout the year. The winegrowers would be pleased and proud to present their best wines.

Bottled at the Estate and commercialized under the appellation « Hugues de Beauvignac » , these wines continue to be popular among wine lovers as a result of their recognized qualities.

Selected each year by the « Guide Hachette » and recommended by the « Guide Gault- Millau », these wines regularly win medals of the most important wine competitions.
